Why I created the website about disability?
Disability in China is a hub of real stories about disabled people, which you hardly see on those mainstream media outlets.
As many of us know, due to censorship restrictions, many issues affecting people with disabilities in China go unreported or are quickly deleted from the Internet. Furthermore, English-language news from state media often focuses on the achievements and progress made in disability-related services.
As a person with a disability myself, I am well aware of the challenges faced by many Chinese people with disabilities. They require real solutions to address various problems, such as poverty, unemployment, inaccessibility, discrimination, mental health, etc. They need external assistance in pushing the government to provide concrete support for people with disabilities.
The topics we will cover on the site
The website aims to raise awareness about the real struggles faced by this marginalized group and advocate for much-needed assistance. Many forms can help them in addition to financial aid. Here I want to discover some true difficulties they are facing, which can help oversea readers understand that the life of most people with disabilities is not as brilliant as what the state media reports. It could urge the government to prioritize and take meaningful action to address some of the issues which disabled people in China are facing.
The stories shared here are gathered from various sources, including Chinese self-media, social media, and interviews. Additionally, I am open to hearing your personal experiences if you have faced any difficulties due to disabilities. Don’t hesitate to contact me, and I will get back to you soon.
